American MetroVista 3D Aerial Mapping Program Launched by Bluesky Geospatial

American MetroVista 3D Aerial Mapping Program Launched by Bluesky Geospatial

The American debut of the MetroVista 3D aerial mapping program has been announced by Bluesky Geospatial Ltd. To collect highly accurate 3D data, including 360-degree views of buildings and street-level features, in metropolitan areas for use in constructing digital twins, visualizations, and simulations, the service uses an airborne hybrid imaging-LiDAR sensor.

Bluesky International, a subsidiary company of Bluesky, based in Leicestershire, England, developed and launched the MetroVista software in the UK in 2018 and has created 3D maps of more than 20 towns in England and Scotland. Boston is the first urban region finished by Bluesky Geospatial for the United States initiative, and it will be featured in project presentations this week at Geo Week 2023 in Denver.

Ralph Coleman, Chief Commercial Officer at Bluesky, stated that the MetroVista 3D data set "serves as the foundation for extremely detailed digital twins at the heart of Smart City programs for many clients." The detailed depiction of current features for informed decision-making and the exact simulation of future development for comparative analysis are made possible by the 3D data's rich information richness.

The MetroVista software is already in use by organizations as diverse as emergency services, transportation, environmental protection, and utilities in city administration and urban planning. The use of 3D data sets and digital twins in the AEC (architecture engineering construction), real estate, and insurance sectors has grown quickly, according to Bluesky.

Bluesky uses the airborne Leica CityMapper-2 hybrid sensor to collect data, which simultaneously takes oblique and nadir pictures as well as LiDAR height measurements. Bluesky transforms the data to produce georeferenced 3D mesh models with a resolution and accuracy of 5 cm and 10 cm, respectively. The 3D models come in a number of formats that can be directly imported into GIS and CAD systems.

Without ever leaving the office, managers and planners can confidently measure, model, and analyze the terrain and characteristics in their cityscapes thanks to the MetroVista 3D software, according to Coleman.

The MetroVista U.S. program relies on an almost 80-year history of delivering precise, dependable, and high-quality mapping projects since 1946 under the Col-East name and since 2017 under the Bluesky brand. Bluesky Geospatial will complete MetroVista city projects for clients in the Northeastern United States and beyond in addition to its entire range of aerial mapping services, expanding its library of aerial images, photography, and LiDAR products.
