For airborne deep bathymetric surveys, Leica Geosystems has announced performance improvements

A significant increase in flying effectiveness is made possible by the new Leica HawkEye-5 bathymetric LiDAR sensor for the detailed data collection in deep waters.

The new, extremely effective airborne bathymetric LiDAR solution for deep water surveying, the Leica HawkEye-5, was just released, according to a statement from Hexagon-affiliated Leica Geosystems.

When compared to earlier generations, the improved technology can boost survey efficiency by up to 25%. Leica HawkEye-5 upgrades the Leica Chiroptera-5 bathymetric LiDAR system's capabilities, boosting the efficiency of applications including marine surveillance in deep waters, environmental monitoring, and nautical charting.

The Leica PAV100 gyro-stabilized mount, which shields the sensor from errant aircraft movements and enables more consistent data density and effective area coverage, is designed to fit the HawkEye-5. A speedier data gathering process and reduced operational expenses and environmental effect result from improved flying efficiency for each mapping project. By completing more projects in less time, users may increase their profits and return on investment.

Three LiDAR sensors, one 4-band camera, and a QC camera are included in the Chiroptera-5 and HawkEye-5 system. Each module is designed with a particular duty in mind, making it possible to acquire the best quality geospatial data from the surface of the earth to the deep seafloors with ease.

The Leica Geosystems bathymetric data processing and analysis workflow is completely integrated with the HawkEye-5, giving customers access to robust capabilities for everything from mission planning and execution to product development. The LiDAR Survey Studio (LSS) software suite supports a variety of applications by providing comprehensive waveform analysis, automatic data classification, and cutting-edge turbid water augmentation.

Owners of prior HawkEye systems can easily improve their sensor capabilities for deep water bathymetric surveying while utilizing their initial investment by purchasing the new technology as an upgrade package.

Anders Ekelund, Vice President of Airborne Bathymetry at Hexagon, claimed that the HawkEye-5 is the only stabilized sensor in the world capable of conducting sophisticated bathymetric surveys in deep waters. "When used in conjunction with the Chiroptera-5, the new system offers a comprehensive solution to effectively answer the most varied application needs, empowering customers to meet the difficulties of the expanding bathymetric industry and to maximize their financial success."
