Technologies from Trimble and Exyn pool together to develop an automated site surveying solution.

Technologies from Trimble and Exyn pool together to develop an automated site surveying solution.

Exyn Technologies, Trimble, and Boston Dynamic have established a strategic partnership to investigate the use of autonomous construction surveying technology by combining the Trimble® X7 total station, the ExynPakTM powered by ExynAITM, and the SpotR robot from Boston Dynamic.

According to the companies, this technology will allow for fully autonomous missions inside challenging and dynamic building sites, which may lead to accurate and consistent reality capture for workflows related to production and quality control. Additionally, it offers mining potential.

According to Trimble's Aviad Almagor, Vice President of Technology Innovation, "the incorporation of autonomous surveying technology into a construction workflow has the potential to be ground-breaking." It may revolutionize worker safety for potentially hazardous data collecting while also enhancing operational efficiency and transparency throughout the build lifecycle.

According to Exyn, autonomous robots powered by ExynAI can detect obstacles and avoid them while dynamically adapting to the complex construction environments that are constantly changing. The ExynPak mounts and integrates with a robot, supporting level 4 autonomous exploration missions without requiring the robot to "learn" about its environment beforehand. This ensures the utmost safety and effectiveness. According to the organizations, a surveyor creates a 3D volume for a task, and the integrated robotic solution manages the challenges of self-navigation without the use of a map, GPS, or wifi infrastructure.

According to Trimble, the integration of the Trimble X7 offers high-speed, high-accuracy 3D laser scanning to record the condition of the environment. For additional analysis, including a comparison to Building Information Models and prior scans to monitor quality and progress, the recorded data can be uploaded to the Trimble Connect® collaboration platform and shared with project stakeholders. The end result is an extremely accurate and detailed map that was created with little risk to humans.
