What’s New in Autodesk Vault 2023.1

What’s New in Autodesk Vault 2023.1

The most recent version of Autodesk's Vault PDM software is more advanced, intelligent, and networked than earlier iterations. The most current Vault 2023.1 update contains performance enhancements, bug fixes, and problem resolutions. Additionally, it adds new and improved functionality. The Autodesk website states that the Vault product data management (PDM) software "helps you manage your design and engineering data, boost collaboration, and take control of your product development processes."

General Enhancements

Vault Basic and Vault Workgroup are now compatible with the updated dark and light 2023 themes. These themes were previously exclusive to Vault Professional. The Has Drawing property on drawing files displayed false in earlier iterations. That seemed reasonable at first, but it confined design release to only when a drawing was available and did not help with life cycle definitions. This was updated by Autodesk to display "true" on drawings for that reason.

The markup features of the integrated Autodesk Viewer were incorporated in Vault 2023. However, since you had to read the file, it was challenging to locate the files with markups. With the 2023.1 update, you can now rapidly identify file versions with accompanying markup data by using the new Has Markup and Has Markup Historical system attributes instead of browsing file by file. As we continue with markups, the Markup button while viewing a file now displays how many markups are there. You can navigate between the markups by using this button, which opens the Markup Browsing Panel (see image above).

Open Drawing, another UI (user interface) improvement, enables you to open a file's associated drawing file without having to search for it first. If the file contains more than one drawing, Vault will ask you which one you want to open. You can now refresh the content in the Show Details pane of the CAD programs (Inventor and AutoCAD)—something that wasn't previously accessible from within the pane. The right-click content menu on the bill of materials (BOM) now includes a link to the Update feature. This allows you to update the item BOM directly from the CAD program without using the Vault client. The data standard add-in for Inventor can also be quickly loaded and unloaded from the ribbon.

Job Processor Enhancements

The independent Job Processor software manages queued jobs by applying predefined actions to collections of files or things. This automates laborious or repetitive processes. Administrators can now enable Automatic Retry based on user suggestions. This implies that rather than having to manually resubmit unsuccessful jobs, you can automatically retry failed jobs a certain number of times.

Copy Design Improvements

Since its UI change a few versions ago, Copy Design has undergone extensive tinkering and enhancements. The Copy Design grid now supports copy and page thanks to the 2023.1 release. Previously, you could only modify one value at a time, but now you can use Excel, for instance, to make group revisions and then paste the changes back into the form. The list of errors that were found during the copy processes can now be exported. Previously, you had to commit the mistakes to memory, record them in writing, or screenshot them for later use.

Thin Client Enhancements

The Vault thin client has been updated as a direct result of consumer input. As the username may now be cached for quicker logins, you no longer need to enter it when logging in. Update Visualization can be requested to queue the creation or updating of the file's Visualization file, which was previously only available in the thick client. The ability to see a CAD file without a CAD application is provided by visualization files. To clear up the workspace and make it simpler to locate open change orders, new filters let you conceal closed and canceled change orders.

It is now simpler to see files. You no longer need to detour through the file workspace to view files because you can view them directly from items. Images can be viewed directly in the client without having to download them beforehand. Now, non-design file types (like PDFs) that the browser supports open in the browser. The thin client will prompt you to download the file if it is not supported. Administrators can now restrict access to only released files, restoring functionality from earlier versions.
